QuickLens App Reviews
On the surface QuickLens is similar to other tools that provide pixel level analysis of screen interfaces. But dig deeper and there is functionality unmatched in any other tool. The Lens tool allows you to sample colors and store them in a palette. This palette can be exported to HTML or even saved as a native Photoshop palette. The Tape tool provides an elegant method for measuring angles. My favorite is the Monocle tool which is perfect for presentations – allowing you to highlight areas of the screen, zoom in and dim the rest of the screen. QuickLens is now my go-to toolbox for analyzing web and app interfaces.
I thought this would be a great alterntaive to other much more expensive design tools. Well while most of the tools here work, the one thing I bought it for does not. Real-time distances… I tried the “O” toggle and the only thing it toggles is top/bottom. There is no clear documentation as how to achieve the real-time distances (it mentions automatic, but that doesn’t happen either). I went to the support website, but there is no way to ask support/developer. If real-time distance is what you’re after look elsewhere...
QuickLens is extremely well thought out and is packed full of very handy features. The developer is friendly and has been very responsive to feature requests. I am graphic designer and a website developer and like others I have been using xScope for years...and for years I have been seeking a better alternative. Look no further...QuickLens is here!
I was fortunate enough to see a live demo of the apps capabilities by the author. What I saw demonstrated was a well designed, comprehensive toolset for exploring UI’s. As an application developer, I am struck by the attention to detail and perfomance that went into this app. Some of it’s more interesting features are: Dynamic Theming, Rich keyboard control and Multi-monitor support. With this tool in my belt, I’m well on my way to overcoming my "font-blindness” and adding UX as a first class member of my skill sets.
QuickLens is awesome. I’m a web desiger and I use this app all the time to check alignment, measure distances, zoom, and pick colors. After a few minutes into the 7 day trial (available on their website) I bought this app. For me this has replaced xScope ($50). Its faster and more stable than xScope, it works beautifully, and it’s 1/5th the price. QuickLens also has great support. The developer is really friendly and responsive and several of my reuqested features have made it into new releases. If you do any kind of graphics work, buy this app, or at least give it a try.
I’m not a designer but I still need tools for measuring, guides, etc. I own xScope v3 which they no longer support and I didn’t want to upgrade as it was not worth it for me. I’m using El Capitan now and I needed those tools badly and that is when I discovered QuickLens. It has every tool I could possibly need and the price is right for me. They have a trial in their website which I was happy to take advantage of since I’ve been burned before by similar apps. I’m very happy to pay and support developers who put their users first. I’m so glad xScope got competition because their tool is overpriced.
This was not a cheap app, but it has proven useless in it’s current state. It works for a couple of minutes and then becomes completely unresponsive. It just will not do anything. You don’t get that spinning wheel of death or the Application Not Responding message, but it just stops working. You can’t quit it from the app menu or select anything, you just become frozen. The only way to exit it is then by going to finder and Force Closing the application. Worthless. I want my $10 back. Unbelievable.
